[Global] Asian Public Intellectuals (API) Fellowships

The Nippon Foundation Fellowships for Asian Public Intellectuals (API Fellowships) are open to academics, mass media professionals, artists, NGO/NPO leaders, and others with moral authority who are working to shape public opinion and influence policy in their societies.


The API Fellowships enable public intellectuals in Asia to pursue intellectual, cultural and professional projects in another Asian country according to one of three predetermined themes.


The API Fellowships are fully funded by The Nippon Foundation.

For the Fellowship period 2006 - 2007, the participating countries are Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand. An International Selection Committee is responsible for the final selection of the candidates recommended by the respective Country Selection Committees.

The API Executive Committee oversees the running of the API Fellowships in consultation with the Nippon Foundation.

The Regional Coordinating Institution, responsible for the regional management of the API Fellowships, is the Institute of Asian Studies Chulalongkorn University, Thailand.

Propose and carry out a project of research and/or professional activities in a participating country or countries other than your native or country of residence.
