The ERCIM Fellowship Programme
The Fellowships are available for PhD holders from all over the world.
Duration
Fellowships are generally of 18 month duration, spent in two of the ERCIM institutes. In particular cases a fellowship might be of 9 month duration spent in one insitute.
How to Apply?
Only online applications are accepted. Details will be explained on the Application Form. Next deadline for applications: 30 September 2005.
Disciplines
The programme focuses on topics defined by the ERCIM working groups and projects administrated by ERCIM from which you can choose on the Application Form. In addition, applications are also welcome for other areas in which ERCIM institutes are active. (see scientific fields of competence).
Where are the Fellows hosted?
Only ERCIM members can host fellows. For information about the possible hosting institutes, see "ERCIM institutes" and follow the links to the homepages of the individual members, or contact the national contact for the ERCIM Fellowship Programme for a specific insitute. When an ERCIM member is a consortium (such as AARIT, CRCIM, SARIT, SpaRCIM, Irish Universities Consortium) the hosting institute might be any of the consortium's members.
When an ERCIM Member is a funding organisation (FNR for Luxembourg; FWO/FNRS for Belgium), the hosting institute might be any of their affiliates.Fellowships are proposed according to the needs of the member institutes and the available funding.
Conditions:
- have a PhD degree or be in the last year of the thesis work with an outstanding academic record
- be fluent in English
- be discharged or get deferment from military service
- start the grant before January 2006
- have completed their PhD before starting the grant (a proof will be requested).
In order to encourage mobility:
- a member institute will not be eligible to host a candidate of the same nationality.
- a candidate cannot be hosted by a member institute, if by the start of the fellowship, he or she has already worked in this institute for a total of 6 months or more, during the last 3 years (after his application).
Monthly allowance in EURO
The fellow receives a monthly allowance which varies depending on the country. This amount will be transferred to the fellow's personal bank account.
Costs for travelling to and from the institutes
Costs for travelling to and from the host institutions will be reimbursed on the basis of an economic class airplane ticket or first class train ticket. Travel by car will be reimbursed on the basis of a first class train ticket. No moving expenses are allocated.
Participation in scientific conferences
The Fellow is encouraged to attend and to submit papers to scientific conferences during his or her fellowship. ERCIM-EEIG will cover registration costs and travelling expenses up to a maximum sum calculated at a rate of 100 EUROs per month on condition that the fellow has an accepted paper at the conference.
Insurance
The fellow is covered by a personal insurance by EGIDE (except for Switzerland), Centre International des Etudiants et Stagiaires (see http://www.egide.asso.fr/), the cost of which is paid by ERCIM-EEIG . The insurance covers medical transportation costs if needed, payment of a lump sum for invalidity or death, personal liability. Female fellows are informed that all expenses related to pregnancy are not covered by this insurance. The insurance does not cover the fellow's family. The fellow will have to conform strictly to the modalities required by EGIDE to obtain benefit of this insurance.
