We are writing on behalf of the Singapore International Foundation (SIF).Each year, SIF hosts the International Student Symposium (ISS), bringing together 600 students comprising of Singaporeans studying in local tertiary institutions, Singaporeans studying overseas, foreign students studying in Singapore and student delegations from ASEAN universities. The Symposium seeks to facilitate multilateral dialogue and foster mutual understanding on issues of common concern in Singapore, the region and the world. At the same time, it actively engages Singaporean students at home and abroad, strengthening their ties to Singapore. It helps to further integrate foreign students into our society, and fosters friendships across cultural boundaries by networking young leaders: vibrant people-to-people interaction that forms the core of SIF's mission and vision to support Singapore's globalisation efforts through international networking and volunteerism programmes.
The theme for ISS 2005 is The Asian Century: Possibility or Pipe Dream?
The Symposium will be held over one and a half days, 4 - 5 August 2005, at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Singapore, with a programme that will include a keynote address; plenary and discussion sessions conducted by eminent representatives of local and regional think tanks, business and government; and a presentation by a distinguished foreign guest speaker.
We are pleased to offer 7 awards to Indonesia from 6 universities below to receive a cash award of S$400 that will be paid to them upon registration at the Symposium:
We are looking for ASEAN students currently doing their undergraduate or honours courses. Besides having an interest in regional affairs, the applicant should also have reasonably good academic results, an active campus life and be fluent in English. Short-listed applicants will be notified to come for an interview conducted by the country alumni. Local accommodation to attend the Symposium will be provided by SIF. This is likely to take the form of a home-stay with a Singaporean family or boarding at a youth hostel.
