[UK] Scholarships and Bursaries at the School of Business and Economics University of Exeter

The School offers several scholarships and bursaries each year, to assist applicants with tuition fees and encourage applicants with high potential to study with us.

For taught programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, we have two ways of providing financial assistance with fees; by scholarships and by bursaries.

Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded for merit alone, and are always for a fixed amount, which is usually a substantial proportion of the tuition fee. If eligible, you can apply for one by means of an application form, to be submitted at the same time or after submitting a full application for one of our programmes.
If a programme has a scholarship attached to it, the application form will be available from the web page for that programme. There is always a deadline to submit scholarship applications, and applicants are informed of the outcome of their application by a specific date. If you are offered a scholarship, you will be informed by email and letter, and you will be asked to pay a deposit of £300 to secure the award.

Bursaries
Bursaries are awarded for a variety of reasons that include merit and the specific circumstances of the applicant. They are for a variable amount up to a stated maximum, and applicants do not need to apply separately for them. If bursaries are available for a programme, all applications are automatically considered. If you are awarded a bursary, you will be notified shortly after we have processed your application by letter and by email.

Research degrees may also attract scholarships and bursaries, but we also offer substantial assistance with both fees and maintenance for teaching assistance.

IFP selects Fellows on the strength of their clearly-stated intention to serve their communities and countries of origin, and expects that they will honor this obligation.

[UK] The Duncan Norman Research Scholarship at the University of Liverpool

Deadline: The closing date for applications is Monday, 1 May 2006.

The Duncan Norman Research Scholarship at the University of Liverpool was established in 2004 following the receipt of a generous donation from The Duncan Norman Charitable Trust in memory of the late Mr Duncan Norman. The objective of the Scholarship is to enable academically gifted students who also have the personal qualities to make them leaders in society, to pursue MPhil/PhD study at the University of Liverpool. The Scholarship may be used to fund research in any University department. The University has established an Advisory Panel of internationally renowned persons to oversee the award of the Scholarship.

The Scholarship is available to all prospective full time postgraduate research students, irrespective of nationality or tuition fee status (i.e. whether UK, EU or overseas). To be eligible for consideration, prospective students must have had their application for MPhil/PhD research approved by the University by the application deadline. One Scholarship shall be awarded annually, and competition therefore is very strong. Only students who already hold, or are likely to attain in forthcoming examinations, a first class honours degree (or its equivalent) are likely to be considered by the Advisory Panel. The Scholarship is available to new students only. Students currently registered for MPhil/PhD research at the University are ineligible to apply.

The Scholarship covers full tuition fees and provides a maintenance stipend and other benefits, including accommodation on the University campus to a total value of £20,000 per year. The Scholarship is awarded for one year in the first instance, but subject to satisfactory academic programme, will be renewed for a total period of up to three years.

For students from the UK and other European countries, it is expected that, where possible, applicants for the Duncan Norman Research Scholarship should also have made an application to the appropriate Research Council for a Postgraduate Studentship. If offered, the Studentship must be accepted, and in such circumstances the Duncan Norman Research Scholarship would provide additional funding such that the student would receive a stipend and other benefits to a total value of £20,000 annually.

For overseas students, it is expected that applicants for the Duncan Norman Research Scholarship should also have made an application via the University for an Overseas Research Students Award Scheme (ORSAS) award. Any applicant who has made a valid application to the University for an ORSAS award will be invited to apply for the Duncan Norman Research Scholarship.

The holder of the Scholarship must register for an MPhil/PhD at the University of Liverpool, and to attend any events based in Liverpool that are organised by the Duncan Norman Charitable Trust.

Further details regarding this prestigious scholarship are to be found in the application pack, which can be downloaded from here.
