[France] MAB Young Scientists Awards


MAB Young Scientists Awards at a glance:
  • Awards for young researchers who want to carry-out interdisciplinary research in line with the MAB Programme
  • Priority is given to interdisciplinary projects carried-out in biosphere reserves on the theme of ecosystems and water
  • 10 Awards per year
  • US $5,000 per Award (maximum)
  • Applications must be received by UNESCO no later than 30 April 2005 to be eligible.

Objectives

The objectives of the MAB Award Scheme are:

  • To encourage young scientists, in particular those from developing countries, to use MAB research, project sites and biosphere reserves in their research.
  • To encourage young scientists who already use such sites to undertake comparative studies in other sites in or outside their own country.
  • To assist exchange of information and experience among a new generation of scientists.

Criteria

The following criteria are used in the selection of MAB Young Scientists Award:

  • Award applications must be made on the MAB Young Scientists Award application form and be endorsed by the applicant's MAB National Committee, which may endorse only three applications per year.
  • Applicants may not be older than 40 years of age.
  • Priority is given to research carried-out in biosphere reserves on the theme of ecosystems and water.
  • Applicants from developed countries are eligible for Award only in exceptional cases.
  • Awards are set at a maximum of US $5,000 each.
  • International travel expenditures are usually not covered under this Award.
  • Research supported by an Award should be completed within 2 years.
  • Candidates must submit their reports of Award funded research to the MAB National Committee for approval before the submission to the MAB Secretariat in Paris, and agree to the possibility of UNESCO publishing the results of their research.
