[Global] The International Airline Training Fund (IATF)

A window of scholarship and training opportunities for staff of IATA Member Airlines in developing countries.

WHAT'S IATF?

The International Airline Training Fund (IATF) was established by IATA, in 1984, as a central component of its Programme for Developing Nations' Airlines (PDNA).

IATF is an independent not-for-profit foundation that fosters training as a means to sustainably enhance the knowledge and skills of the employees of IATA Member airlines in developing countries, thus allowing them to meet their respective airlines' business needs and the challenges of the air transport industry.

The Fund has been built up by donations from IATA Member airlines and companies and organizations involved in air transport .

PROGRAMMES

Scholarships Programme

1. Individual Scholarships:
Scholarships for the
IATA Training & Development Institute's classroom courses at any of the IATA Training & Development Institute Training Centres (Geneva, Montreal, Miami or Singapore). These scholarships include tuition fees, and in some cases accommodation.

Part of these scholarships may also be awarded for any of the Distance Learning courses offered by IATA, covering the course registration fees and the home study training materials provided by the IATA Training & Development Institute.

These scholarships are also applicable to the classroom courses offered by Airbus's
AirBusiness Academy, in Toulouse, France.

IATA Member Airlines headquartered in a developing nation can send up to 10 applications per year, of which up to 4 can only be approved.

2. Collective Scholarships:
Scholarships for the IATA Training & Development Institute's classroom courses at any of the IATA Training & Development Institute Training Centres (Geneva, Montreal, Miami or Singapore). These scholarships include tuition fees only and are advertised on short notice. Interested airlines should cover the participant's air travel, accommodation and per diem. There are no restrictions in terms of number of applications to be submitted or approved per year.

Regional Training Programme

Sponsorship of IATA training in close collaboration with an airline serving as a host, and benefiting up to 10 staff from this airline.

Personnel from other carriers in the region are also invited to attend (up to 2 staff per airline), based on the recommendation of their training departments. IATF covers all the costs of providing an instructor accredited by IATA and the course materials for all participants.

Barter Programme

Exchange of IATA courses for courses offered by an IATA Member airline from a developing country.

The objective of this programme is to support and further enhance the airlines' training capacities by providing their instructors greater experience in teaching to different audiences with different training needs, while at the same time ensuring that the training needs of third-party airlines are met.

Two kinds of exchanges can be made:

1. Exchange between the IATF and the Airline: the interested airline hosts an IATA course at its home-base, for the benefit of 15-24 staff in one go. In exchange, the interested airline offers one of its regular courses to staff from another airline, at a location chosen by IATF.

2. Exchange between the IATF and the Instructor: an airline instructor gets a scholarship to attend a scheduled IATA course at any IATA Training Center. In exchange, the airline instructor teaches a course in his/her area of specialization to staff from another airline, at a location chosen by IATF.

For detailed information about the IATA courses that IATF can offer to your airline on barter-basis, please check the current
IATA Training offer.
