[US] ISES 2005 Solar World Congress Scholarship

ISES 2005 Solar World Congress
Bringing Water to the World

Please join the American Solar Energy Society, the International Solar Energy Society and all of the other participating organizations in Orlando, Florida, August 6-12, 2005 as we welcome the ISES Solar World Congress back to the United States. Join leading researchers, scientist, engineers, architects, designers and other renewable energy professionals from around the world at this comprehensive program.

Developing Country Scholarships

Background

There are a large number of qualified researchers, scientists and teachers from the developing world that seek to attend the 2005 Solar World Congress. This event is the 34 th Annual American Solar Energy Society National Solar Energy Conference and the 30 th Annual National Passive Solar Energy Conference and will be held in concert with the International Solar Energy Society’s bi-annual Solar World Congress. Of special interest to the developing world is the theme of the 2005 Congress, “Bringing Water to the World.”

1991 was the last time ASES hosted the Solar World Congress and over 60 countries participated. Nearly 80 attendees from developing countries received financial aid. For most, it was the only way that they could attend the Congress. Planners anticipate up to 75 countries will attend the 2005 event.

Goal

The Congress would like to provide 80 full scholarships to developing country attendees. The scholarships are budgeted at $1708 each. The American Solar Energy Society will provide about $900 in waived registration fees, lodging subsidies and payments as its part. We have set a fund raising goal of $136,640 to fund these 80 scholars.

Individuals selected to receive scholarships will receive cash payment for costs incurred in obtaining a US visa, international airfare, ground transportation to and from the conference hotel, conference registration, 6 days lodging, including lodging tax, and a daily meal stipend for six days.

Funding Sources

The ability to generate these scholarship funds depends upon many sources each committing to contribute into the scholarship fund. An initiative is underway for the various ASES states and regional chapters to sponsor one or more scholars to the conference. Each of the various Congress “partners” will provide monies into the fund. ASES is asking its general membership to contribute the fund. And national private foundations, government entities and international institutions that promote developing countries are being asked to contribute.

number one:There are several steps of processing to make snacks from strawberries. First of all, after the strawberries have been harvested from the field, they are sorted in order to obtain the best. In addition, if the sorters find a bad or unripe fruits, they collect it into a container to be cheaply sold to the public market ("pasar"). There are so many ways to process strawberries to be a snack, but in this writting, I just explain two of them, that are jam-making process and canning process. Firstly, I will explain about Jam-making process. slice or crush the ripe strawberries to little pieces. You can mix them in a mixer or, if they are too many, you can use a huge crusher. Add sugar adequately to the crushed strawberries in order to sweeten the favor. But, remember not to add it too much. Some consumers can be a diabetes sufferer that should not consume too much sweetener. After the admixture is well-mixed, heat it with medium flame until it nearly boils. Usually, never let it fully boiled, so turn the flame down when it's nearly boiling. Then, simmer it for two hours in order to maintain its taste. After it's being semi-solid, it's now a pan of strawberry jam. Finally, We can both pack the jam into some wrapper or directly make cakes from it. Packing can be done into jars or plastic-wrappers. After they are packed, the jams are available to shop. But, if we choose to make cakes from them. We should add them into a bread dough to make the bread strawberry-flavored. Beside served as a jam, strawberry fruits can also be a sweets (canned fruit). To make a canned strawberry, firstly, we should directly fill the can with the strawberries and seal it, then , with a specific machine, pump the air out of the space remaining at the top of the can to form a vacuum. This condition makes the fruits safe from outer microorganisms. After the air is fully vacuum, heat the can in a special cooker called "retort", and then directly cool it to prevent overcooking of the food inside. This process removes oxygen, destroys enzymes involved in food spoilage, and kills most microorganisms that may be present in the food. After all, canned strawberry is ready to be served.

information : I take the canning process from Encarta Ref. Lib. 2005 as a source,
with a full alteration (change).

number two:Water reaches houses, usually, in two forms. That are hot and cold (better called neutral). But, both are from the the same source, public main which contains cold water. A huge public main can be paralleled to hundreds little mains that supply every domestic need of water. In each houses, water distributes itself to a lot of water output, like faucet. But, before enter each house's pipe, the water, firstly, passes through an amount-gauge, that will count every cubic water we use. It's a round plastic pipe on which there is a five digits number (i think) showing the amount of water we consume (in cubic) that automatically change when water passes through. Cold water is distributed in house directly (without proper treatment), while hot water must be boiled first. It (cold one) is collected into a tank, then be boiled by a water heater. After it's fully boiling, a hot water tank is prepared to collect the boiling water. Now, they (hot and cold water) are ready to be used together (from different faucet, of course).
